WILLIAM H. OTIS
Executive Director
Bill assumed his new position on Monday, April 28, 2008. Prior to coming to the American Red Cross he was a Pastor in the United Methodist Church for fourteen years, worked fifteen years in several Northern New York businesses as a Human Resource Manager and retired as a Major from the US Army Reserves. Most recently he was employed by Staples as a Business Development Manager for Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties. He is originally from Malone, NY, where he graduated from Franklin Academy.
Bill is a graduate of the University of the State of New York with a BS in Business and from Duke University with a Masters in Divinity. He resides in Adams Center with his wife Cindy. They have three children and seven grandchildren.
The mission and the needs of the American Red Cross are Bill's primary focus. He encourages the opportunity to speak with organizations, religious groups, government agencies, military groups, and individuals. The American Red Cross, as the National Red Cross Society of the United States, is a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The American Red Cross was founded in 1881 and incorporated by Act of Congress in 1905.
The American Red Cross of Northern New York, one of 775 chapters in the United States, was founded in 1917 as the Jefferson County Chapter. In 1987 the Jefferson County Chapter merged with the Lewis County Chapter to form the Black River Valley Chapter. In 2003 came another name change to The American Red Cross of Northern New York and an expansion of its service delivery area to St. Lawrence County. Under the terms of its charter, the chapter is responsible for carrying out the humanitarian mission of the American Red Cross. |
