Inside a million investment scam: Buy the Iraqi dinar
Andrea Day | @AndreaDay CNBC
a group of men behind an Iraqi currency scheme created a pitch that included war hero tales to lure potential investors.

“You have someone who is out there … who is soliciting millions and millions of dollars from people just making stuff up,” said Steven Dettelbach, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.

The opportunity was pitched as a way to profit from a nearly worthless Iraqi dinar. Scammers promised profits were nearly guaranteed if investors bought dinars at today’s values, and then exchanged the dinars back for dollars at a later date once the dinar exchange rate presumably improved.
Investors bought the currency through the firm BH Group, which charged a 20 percent markup on average, according to prosecutors. Some of the scammers also touted false military achievements, prosecutors say.

By the time the scheme unraveled, federal officials say victims handed over nearly million to the con men for the Iraqi currency they thought would make them rich.

I'm just wondering why the US treasury has 3 trillion dinars…if it is indeed a scam. I also wonder why Chase was offering it in 2008 (or whatever year it was when you could get some from them). Why did the IMF state that Iraq would be back on the global market this year? They need a currency that can be traded/exchanged internationally for that-which means the value has to go up (from the current program rate). The same (elite) news agencies, etc and the people who run them that say this is a scam are the same ones that have millions of them (dinars) and will be getting rich(er) from them… very soon…. ; ) If it was REALLY a scam then people shouldn't be able to "get their money back" if they want it – like I was able to do a few weeks ago: I took some dinar to the exchange store and got US dollars for them. I shouldn't have been able to do that if exchanging a foreign currency is such a scam. What is forex? This is how the banks (and those with a certain net worth/bank balance) make money: exchanging foreign currency. 3 to 5 trillion dollars change hands every day on the forex markets – 24 hours a day/5days a week. This far surpasses the puny little stock market which only does 30-50 billion a day in "exchanges." I look forward to the windfall from this "scam." LOL!!!!
